Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD)

The Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD) offers advanced training at the highest level to young musicians aged 8-18 years, providing individually-tailored programmes of one-to- one instrument/voice/composition lessons, supported by chamber music, orchestra, choir and musicianship classes. Exceptional tuition and high-profile performance opportunities give our students a valuable insight into the life of a professional musician and gives the wider public a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience of some of the finest young musicians this country has to offer.

As well as regular concerts at the College, RCMJD students have appeared in some of London’s most prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, St James’ Piccadilly, Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Westminster Abbey, The House of Lords and The Globe Theatre, together with a number of London’s Livery Halls including Saddler’s Hall and Carpenter’s Hall. Last December an RCMJD String Quartet performed for RCM President, HRH The Prince of Wales at his Sandringham residence.

Our students regularly feature in national and international competitions and we are particularly proud that the winners of the 2012, 2014 and 2016 BBC Young Musician were all RCMJD students. This year four of our students have reached the category Finals, to be broadcast on the BBC in May.

The Royal College of Music Junior Department is delighted to be providing musicians for the 2018 Reflections of The Lord Mayor event and we look forward to this exciting collaboration.

Performing on the night is the Spring Quartet from the Royal College of Music Junior Department.
